Feather and beak structure in this female red crossbill my 10 year old son and his friends found. My speculation is that crossbills give us insight into the world of beneficial mutations. This crossed beak provides them access to conifer cones. Red crossbills prefer pine, but do eat spruce and fir seeds as well. #crossbill #redcrossbill #loxia #therearebeneficialmutations
