Island building

krakatoa_eruption_lithographProbably the most famous island destruction and subsequent re-building is the famous Krakatoa and Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatoa) between the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java.

Watch some remarkable recent footage of Anak Krakatau as well as some from the birth of the island in 1927.

The image to the left is a lithograph of the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa which sank the island. It is considered to be the loudest sound ever produced on the planet. Unfortunately we don’t have a recording 🙂
