I have been mulling over the reports regarding the oldest child of the Duggar Family, known mostly for the hit reality TV show, 19 Kids and Counting.
I am reminded of the power of God the Father and of the person of the Holy Spirit.
We want so badly to identify with others and especially identify with those from our camp who assume highly visible or powerful roles in our culture. This is absolutely dangerous. It is even more dangerous when we in the homeschooling camp take our cues for developing character from one of these individuals and their publishing company.
This is the role of the Holy Spirit, alone.
I believe this is one of the great idolatries of Western Christians. We hold up pastors, theologians, TV stars, executive directors, bloggers, oh so high. This means we are neglecting the one we should be taking our cues from, the Holy Spirit. If we are looking for affirmation and confirmation for what we do and how we do it from these individuals, then we are seeking to please men. No person, no matter how great, should ever get between us and the comforter, for He is a wondrous gift of grace from God our father.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. – John 14:26
